Nucleotide Sequence Variation in the Insulin-Like Growth Factor 1 Gene Affects Growth and Carcass Traits in New Zealand Romney Sheep

Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1) is a mediator of the effects hormone and polymorphism in IGF1 gene reported to affect fat deposition some livestock species. In this study, nucleotide sequence variation three regions ovine (part 5' flanking region, exon 3 4 region) was investigated 848 New Zealand Romney lambs using PCR-single strand conformation (SSCP) analyses ascertain if single polymorphisms (SNPs) existed. Six SNPs were identified across these regions. The effect on carcass traits investigated. One PCR-SSCP variants region associated with hot weight, depth at 12th rib measured video imaging percentage proportion leg lean meat, whereas other rate weaning. No associations detected for analyzed. results suggest that has potential use as gene-marker traits.
